There is an indication that a crisis may erupt between some aggrieved residents and the contractors handling the ongoing Okesa/Imo/Breweries/Ilesa/Akure junction dualization road project, embarked upon by the Osun State government in Ilesa.
This follows allegations from some house and business owners in the area that the contractors are deliberately deviating from the original markings and designated pillars along the Imo/Korede axis of the road.
Tension heightened today when a bulldozer reportedly extended the demolition exercise beyond the area marked for demolition in the axis. One resident, Akin Adefenwa, claimed that deviating from the original markings and survey was an attempt to favor a particular building around Onimo junction, allegedly belonging to the wife of a powerful politician in the state, which would affect properties not originally marked for demolition.
According to Adefenwa, the people of Ijesaland, particularly those around the construction area, have been supporting and partnering with the contractors. He called on the Osun State government, the surveyor-general, and the Agba Ijesa to visit the site and verify their claims to prevent a crisis, stressing the importance of justice.
It is worth recalling that Governor Ademola Adeleke kicked off the 6.2-kilometer road project about three months ago.
