The Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran, has directed market heads, including Iyalojas and Babalojas, to apprehend any traders who shortchange customers and report them to the police for prosecution.
This directive was reinforced by the market taskforce during their assessment of market executives at Sabo Market in Ilesa.
Oba Aromolaran emphasized his commitment to eradicating misconduct in Ijesaland’s major markets.
He has banned the use of fake measuring instruments, the display of goods on major roads, and exploitative practices by trader associations.
The taskforce, led by the Owa in council, collaborated with law enforcement and local vigilantes to seize numerous fake measuring instruments and clear obstructions from the Ilesa roundabout.
The leader of the team, Obaala of Ilesa, High Chief Folorunso Ibitoye, affirmed that these enforcement actions would persist until full compliance with the Owa’s directives is achieved, in accordance with Osun State’s laws.
Last Friday, similar actions were taken at Atakumosa Market in Ilesa, where residents commended the Owa and his council for their decisive measures against oppression and exploitation.
The taskforce warned that stricter penalties would be enforced against non-compliant traders moving forward.
The enforcement team included High Chiefs Obaala, Ogboni, Obaodo, Arapate, Loro, Lejofi, Yeyerise, Omode Owa, Elegbaaji, Alapokuduru, Yeyesogba, along with hunters and law enforcement personnel.
