Governor Adeleke Sets Up Panel of Enquiry on Esa Oke – Ayegunle Chieftaincy Dispute (SEE FULL LIST)

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has approved the constitution of a panel of enquiry to investigate the recent chieftaincy dispute between Esa Oke and Ido Ayegunle in Obokun Local Government Area.

The decision follows the governor’s visit to both towns after communal clashes erupted, leading to the destruction of properties.

During his visit, Governor Adeleke condemned the violence and assured the communities of a thorough investigation to address the root causes of the crisis.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Spokesperson to the Governor, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, The panel will be chaired by the Special Adviser to the Governor on House of Assembly Matters, Rt. Hon. Ropo Oyewole, and includes key government officials such as the Special Adviser on Security Matters, Barrister Samuel Ojo, and representatives from the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Regional Integration, and the Public Service Office while the Deputy Director of Chieftaincy Affairs in the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mrs. Adeola Ajekigbe, will serve as the panel’s secretary.The panel’s terms of reference include Investigating the immediate and underlying causes of the crisis, which broke out on January 30, 2025, following the state executive council’s approval of Prince Oluwatimileyin Oluyemi Ajayi as the Olojudo of Ido-Ayegunle, Recommending measures for lasting peace in the affected communities, Assessing the extent of damages and proposing necessary remediation, Addressing any other relevant issues to aid in resolving the dispute.

Confirming the development, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Dosu Babatunde said the panel is expected to submit its recommendations to the government within two weeks of its inauguration, which is scheduled for March 4, 2025, at the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Osogbo.

Honourable Dosu Babatunde emphasized the government’s commitment to peace and stability in the state saying Governor Adeleke has reiterated his administration’s dedication to upholding justice and ensuring peaceful coexistence among all communities in Osun State.
