
The late Deaconess Hannah Oluwafunke Famurewa JP, who passed away on December 2, 2024, at 92 years, was given a dignified farewell by the Famurewa household who meticulously organized a series of funeral activities that began with a Service of Songs held inside the assembly hall of Ilesa Grammar School on Thursday, February 27, 2024, followed by a private interment at the Rest Park and Garden, Osogbo road, Ilesa in the morning of Friday February 28 the Outing and Thanksgiving service at the Christ Apostolic Church, Oke-Ibukun Assembly, Ifosan Zonal Headquarters, Ilesa also on Friday, terminating with a thanksgiving reception at Faseru Civic Centre, off Ijebujesa road.
The activities which was followed by IjesaNews correspondent, reflected a celebration of Mama Hannah Famurewa’s life and legacies. Unsurprisingly, the events saw dignitaries from various walks of life in attendance.
Madam Florence, mother of Hon. Israel Ajibola Famurewa, two terms member of National House of Representatives who represented Ijesa South Federal Constituency 2011-2015 and 2015 to 2019, lived a remarkable life.
As the matriarch of the Famurewa family, she was known for her strength, grace, and dedication to her family, church and community, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew her.

s made their presence known to pay their final respects.The event was a reflection of Deaconess Famurewa’s impactful life, drawing a distinguished gathering to honor her legacy.
Hon. Ajibola Famurewa expressed his gratitude to God for the life and legacy of his late mother, Deaconess Hannah Oluwafunke Famurewa JP.
He described her as a devout Christian, a dedicated worker in the church, and a successful trader who prioritized education and sacrificed greatly to ensure her children received proper training.
Reflecting on the values she instilled in them, Hon. Famurewa emphasized the importance of fearing God and serving in His house.
He recalled how his mother always insisted that simply attending church was not enough—every believer should have a defined role in God’s work
Honourable Famurewa noted that this principle remains a guiding lesson for him and his family.
The former Executive Chairman of the Osun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) also extended his appreciation to political associates, friends, and well-wishers who traveled from different locations to honor his mother’s life.
He advised them to cherish their parents while they are still alive, stressing that once they are gone, the opportunity to show love and appreciation is lost forever.
“Do the best you can for your parents while they are here,” he urged. “Once they are gone, you won’t have another chance.”

Late Deaconess Hannah Oluwafunke Famurewa JP was born in 1932 into the family of Late Chief Oyefin Amure and Late Madam Felicia Aina Amure both of blessed memory from ljemba ljesa in Atakumosa East Local Government in Osun State.
She had no opportunity of attending any formal educational institution in her early life, but she could read and write. She was the last born of her parents.
She lived a good and quality life.She was a very simple woman. She learnt tailoring which she later combined with trading after she got married to her husband Pa. James Olasupo Famurewa JP and she gave birth to wonderful children, she succeeded in raising all her children to become the best in the society. She did not have any experience of formal education, but she made sure all her children have the best education.
After her marriage, she travelled with her husband to Ado- Odo, from there to the Northern part of the country which was known as Oke Oya to trade as Osomalo [Cloth trader]. Upon returning from the North in 1974, she settled in lbadan where she traded in readymade clothes at Ogunpa. During the flood disaster in 1980 at Ibadan, her business was affected this made her to go back to llela in Sokoto state where she continued her Osomalo business. She finally returned back home in 2001.
Late Dns Hannah Oluwafunke Famurewa JP was a devoted Christian during her life time. She was baptized at The Apostolic Church Nigeria Oke-Oye before getting married to her husband. She was a chorister and she loved to sing. She was ordained as a deaconess and she was appointed as the Matron of Christ Apostolic Church llela Sokoto State. She attended Christ Apostolic Church Oke – Imole Agbeni lbadan where she was one of the matrons of the Good Women Association (GWA). She contributed immensely in making the pastors comfortable, both financially and morally as her own support for God’s work.

Late Deaconess Hannah Oluwafunke Famurewa JP was a virtuous woman, she was willing to do any kind of good work to support and care for the family, friends and neighbours.

Mama breathed her last breath around 9:45am on 2nd of Dec. 2024.
She is survived by her husband, senior brother, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.
