Comrade Ogunleye Samuel Iyanuoluwa, a 300-level student of Crop Production and Soil Science at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), has been elected as the new National President of the Federation of Ijesa Students’ Union (FISU).
The election, which took place earlier today at Ilesa Grammar School, Ilesa, followed the disqualification of his co-contestant, Mr. Sarumi Oluwakayode Matthew from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), by the Electoral Committee on Friday night.
In a memo jointly signed by Adedayo Enoch, Chairman, and Oluwajuyigbe Idowu, General Secretary of the Electoral Committee, Sarumi was disqualified for failing to present the Local Government recommendation letter required by the guidelines, for making conflicting claims about his Local Government affiliation having previously served as FISU National Electoral Chairman under Ilesa East but seeking to contest under Ilesa West and for displaying what the Committee described as a disrespectful attitude during the screening exercise, which undermined the integrity of the process.
The Committee stressed that the decision was final and binding, citing the removal of a past president, Comrade Better Life, two months after inauguration over a similar eligibility issue as precedent.
In an official acceptance memo released from the FISU National Headquarters, The National President Elect Comr. Samuel Ogunleye (popularly known as Sammy) extended a hand of friendship to his co-contestant assuring that their personal relationship remains intact and calling for his support, ideas, and collaboration in building a stronger FISU.
“My victory is not mine alone but a reflection of our collective strength, resilience, and unwavering dedication to the noble ideals of our Union,” he stated.
Comr. Samuel also acknowledged the efforts of stakeholders under the leadership of Leader Okiki, the Ilesa West Stakeholders and Students, and the outgoing administration led by Comrade Adedeji Ayobami Adeniyi, describing their contributions as instrumental to his emergence.
He particularly appreciated members of his home chapter, FISU-Lautech, for their solid support throughout the process.
In his message to all Chapter Presidents and the Student Representatives’ Council (SRC), he called for unity and cooperation to achieve the goals of the Union, pledging to lead under the banner of the Ijesa Rebirth Agenda — Revamp, Empower, Elevate.“Our vision is clear: to build a stronger, more united FISU that embodies the greatness of our heritage and inspires a brighter future for every Ijesa student,” he added.
Comr. Samuel who dedicated the victory to all Ijesa students reaffirmed his commitment to work tirelessly for the progress of the Union and the development of Ijesaland.
