
Operatives of the Osun State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, have foiled a midnight armed robbery attempt along the Ilesa–Ibadan Expressway, rescuing several travellers and arresting one suspect.
A statement by the Corps Spokesman, Yusuf Abbas Idowu said The incident occurred around 12:20 a.m. on Wednesday during a routine patrol by officers attached to the Ilesa Area Command.
According to him, The patrol team was alerted by a motorist, Maxwell Phillips from Benue State, who had just been attacked by the suspected robbers.
Acting on the distress report, Abbas said the operatives moved swiftly to the scene. On sighting the approaching patrol vehicle, the hoodlums reportedly fled into the bush.
However, one of the suspects, identified as 32-year-old Chinedu Eze from Ebonyi State, was apprehended while attempting to escape.
Items recovered from the suspect include a cutlass, a torchlight, and a wooden firearm carved to resemble an AK-47 rifle, which was allegedly used to threaten motorists.
According to the Osun Amotekun Corps, the arrested suspect confessed during preliminary interrogation, confirming that his accomplices fled upon noticing the presence of security operatives.
Efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing members of the gang.
The Corps Commander, Dr. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, who confirmed the arrest, praised the operatives for their vigilance and swift action even as he reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
Dr. Omoyele urged residents to remain security conscious and continue providing credible information that can help prevent criminal activities.
