History Beckons: Ijesaland Rolls Out the Drums for Owa Ajimoko III

The ancient city of Ilesa is aglow with anticipation as preparations reach a climax for the historic coronation ceremony of His Imperial Majesty, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, the Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland.

The official coronation programme, scheduled to span Friday, 16th May to Sunday, 25th May 2025, features a rich array of cultural, religious, sporting, and royal activities, drawing dignitaries and traditional rulers from across Nigeria and beyond.

Day One kicks off on Friday, 16th May with a Special Jumaat Service at 1 pm at the Ilesa Central Mosque, followed by an interactive dinner with Kabiyesi at 4 pm, hosted by the Chairman of the Coronation Planning Committee.

On Saturday, 17th May, a Cultural Celebration will take place at the Palace Hall, showcasing the deep-rooted traditions of Ijesaland from 10 am to 4 pm, followed by a vibrant Isese Night at the Palace Courtyard by 9 pm.

Sunday, 18th May will feature a unique gathering of Ijesa theatre leaders and elders at 3 pm, capped by a command performance of the stage play “Owa Akorede Asoludero” at the prestigious Oba Aromolaran Events Center, Adimula Palace.

A royal tour across Ijesa zones is slated for Monday, 19th May, from 10 am to 4 pm, offering Kabiyesi the opportunity to connect with his people across the land.

The coronation festivities continue on Tuesday, 20th May, with the grand finale of Coronation Sports Activities, including the Owa Ajimoko III Ijesa Marathon Race (7 am take-off from the palace), football matches, and medal presentations at the Federal Science and Technical College, Cappa Ilesa by 4 pm.

Wednesday, 21st May, will be a day of compassion and development, featuring a visit to orphanages from 10 am to 12 pm, followed by a video documentary and workshop under the Ijesa Mineral Resources Development Forum (IMROF) from 1 pm to 6 pm at the University of Ilesa.

On Thursday, 22nd May, events will include the Ajimoko III Coronation Golf Kitty at Unilesa Golf and Country Club (8 am to 10:30 am), and a Symposium cum Ajimoko Foundation Scholarship & Empowerment Scheme at Royal Park Hotel, Iloko-Ijesa from 11 am to 3 pm.

The Grand Finale of the Coronation comes up on Friday, 23rd May, beginning with the traditional investiture at 10 am at the Owa’s Palace, followed by a grand reception at Ilesa Grammar School and Obokun High School, featuring the Legbe-Legbe Parade and an after-party with performances from emerging artistes and DJs.

The momentous occasion will be rounded off on Sunday, 25th May, with a Coronation Thanksgiving Service at the Methodist Cathedral, Otapete, Ilesa by 10 am.

All sons and daughters of Ijesaland, friends, and well-wishers are formally invited to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime royal celebration.
