In a bid to ensure a more seamless, memorable and impactful Iwude Ijesa Carnival in 2025, the Iwude Ijesa Planning Committee today held a strategic meeting with representatives of various Egbe groups.
The meeting, chaired by Chief Afolabi Igbaroola featured robust discussions aimed at reviewing the maiden 2024 Ijesa Unity Carnival and setting an agenda for future improvements.
The session which was moderated by Bobaseye Akinyemi Olusegun Fasakin, the Majeobaje Egbe of Egbe Bobakeye Okunrin Adimula Ijesaland had representatives from prominent Egbe groups such as Egbe Bobagunwa, Egbe Bobaseye, Egbe Tobalase, Egbe Gbobaluyi, Egbe Ewa Ijesa Progressive Ladies, and others in attendance.
Chief Igbaroola who is the chairman, Iwude Ijesa Planning Committee expressed gratitude to all Egbes for their support in making the 2024 Ijesa Unity Carnival a success.
The Leaders of Groups equally commended the Planning Committee’s meticulous efforts while identifying areas needing improvement.
The key challenges discussed included logistical issues, such as the delayed setup of canopies and chairs, which caused a late start to the event, Additionally, the insufficient provision of chairs and tables led to inter-group competition for resources and Concerns were also raised about the treatment of VIPs, as traditional rulers were reportedly provided with inadequate seating, a situation many considered disrespectful.
Furthermore, there was a notable deficiency in publicity, as local awareness of the carnival was low, with many townspeople unaware of the event.
To address these issues, the Planning Committee was urged to prioritize better coordination, especially regarding the arrangement of canopies, chairs, and pavilions with A UK-based event manager, Akowe Egbe Tobalase Obinrin expressing readiness to volunteer to offer pro bono services to oversee the 2025 carnival in collaboration with the committee.
In addition, all Egbe groups were encouraged to begin preparations for the 2025 carnival immediately to ensure better planning and execution.
Chief Igbaroola clarified that the 2025 Iwude Ijesa activities would follow the established schedule, with cultural and traditional events slated for the Saturday before Christmas and the Unity Carnival on Sunday.
He emphasized that this two-day format is non-negotiable.
The Planning Committee Chairman announced its representation at the coronation of the Alua of Erin-Oke in February and encouraged Elegbejegbe members to attend saying Updates on the Owa Obokun’s coronation will be communicated as they become available.
The chairman urged Egbe leaders to foster unity and mutual love among members, resolve disputes amicably, and ensure the continuity of their respective groups.
He offered prayers for the well-being of Ijesaland and its people.
