The newly appointed Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland, Oba Adesuyi Haastrup, was officially presented with the Staff of Office and Instrument of Appointment on Sunday, marking the beginning of his reign in a grand ceremony attended by distinguished Nigerians from various sectors.
Oba Haastrup, in his inaugural address, vowed to tackle land grabbing and unveiled plans to establish a vocational school for artisans to boost local production.
The Staff of Office was presented by Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, in the presence of eminent traditional rulers, including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; the Orangun of Ila, Oba Wahab Adedotun; and the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi.
Held at the entrance of Obokungbusi Town Hall, Ilesa, the event also featured other notable monarchs such as the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji; Orangun of Oke Ila, Oba Adedokun Abolarin; and Owaloko of Iloko Ijesa, Oba Akeem Ogungbangbe.
Governor Adeleke urged the new monarch to leverage his extensive experience and global network to foster development in Ijesaland while pledging his administration’s commitment to advancing growth across Osun State.
In his acceptance speech, Oba Haastrup called for unity, declaring, “The time for contest is over. For me, there is ‘No Victor, No Vanquished.’ Let us unite to build a stronger and more prosperous future for Ijesaland.”
The monarch also unveiled a strategic policy direction to promote economic growth through agriculture, agro-allied industries, and creative development ventures.
He reiterated a zero-tolerance stance on land grabbing, emphasizing, “There shall be no land grabbing in my name or in the name of others, no matter how highly placed.”
Following the ceremony, the Owa Obokun Media Office announced that Oba Haastrup would immediately proceed to seclusion for traditional rites, with his coronation ceremony to be held at a later date.
The office added that details of the coronation would be announced after the completion of the seclusion period.
