The Oloni of Eti-Oni, Oba Dokun Thompson, has expressed profound gratitude to the Federal Government for the commencement of a N12 billion road construction project in Eti-Oni, Atakumosa East Local Government Area of Osun State, after over four decades of neglect.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony on Wednesday, Oba Thompson described the development as a historic moment that would revitalize the economic potential of the cocoa-rich town.
“The joy, the happiness is tremendous, and we cannot explain it because this road has been neglected for more than 40 years,” the monarch said.
“When you have fertile land but no access, it is like a cemetery. This road is bringing our community back to life.”
The 56-kilometer road project, supervised by the Federal Ministry of Works, is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and aims to open up economically viable regions, enabling communities to transport farm produce to commercial centers with ease.
Oba Thompson noted that the project would not only enhance agricultural productivity but also inspire the youth to embrace farming.
“With this happening now, many youths will be incentivized to venture into agriculture,” he added.
He further appreciated President Tinubu for approving the project, describing it as a perfect gift for the community as they celebrate their annual cocoa festival.
The Minister of Works, Mr. David Umahi, represented by Mr. Oluseyi Adedipe, Acting Controller of Works in Osun, said the project would be executed in phases to ensure completion within 12 months.He emphasized the need for contractors to adhere to ministry standards to ensure value for taxpayers’ money.Residents of Eti-Oni, including Chief Musibau Gbadamosi, expressed their excitement about the project.They noted that it would transform the town’s economy and pledged their continued support for the administration.
