Owa Obokun Tasks NSCDC on Stronger Action as Osun Commandant Visits Ijesaland, Vows to Flush Out Illegal Miners

The Owa Obokun and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, has called for intensified action against illegal mining activities that continue to threaten the environment and livelihood of his people .

The monarch made the appeal when the Osun State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr Igbalawole Sotiyo, paid him a courtesy visit at his palace as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration with traditional institutions across the state.

According to a statement by the Agency’s Spokesperson Kehinde Adeleke , Owa Haastrup described the visit as timely and commendable and lauded the NSCDC for its commitment to protecting lives and property

The Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland stressed the urgent need for stronger enforcement against illegal miners whose activities have caused massive environmental degradation in the area.

He urged the Corps to sustain the tempo and sanitize mining operations in Ijesaland adding that only firm action can safeguard the people and restore order.

In his remarks, The Osun NSCDC Boss appreciated the people of Ijesaland for their continuous cooperation, especially in providing intelligence that has led to arrests of illegal miners operating within Ilesa and surrounding communities.

He identified illegal mining as one of the major security and environmental threats confronting the state, assuring the Owa Obokun that the NSCDC remains fully committed to eliminating the menace.

The Commandant emphasized that his administration will deepen collaboration with traditional rulers as a strategic approach to maintaining peace and curbing criminal activities across Osun State.

He further called on residents to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies.

Oba Haastrup later bestowed royal blessings on the Commandant, praying for wisdom, strength, and success in the discharge of his duties.
