‎‎The Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, has announced plans to establish a School of Artisans at the University of Ilesa.‎‎

The initiative according to him is aimed at bridging the skill gap in Nigeria’s construction industry and creating sustainable jobs for Ijesa youths.‎‎

Speaking during a two-in-one event marking his 77th birthday and the public presentation of the book “The History of Ijesa Towns and Communities: The People, Land and Heritage” on Friday at Muson Centre in Lagos, Owa Haastrup said the proposed school will train young people in critical construction skills such as plumbing, tiling, and masonry – areas currently dominated by foreign artisans from countries like Ghana, Togo, and China.

‎‎The monarch explained that the school will not only train artisans but also equip them with the knowledge and resources to expand their services across Nigeria, including Port Harcourt, Kaduna, and Sokoto, giving Ijesa youths a competitive edge in the industry.

‎‎He appealed to Ijesa sons and daughters, philanthropists, and stakeholders to support the initiative, describing it as a major step towards reducing unemployment and empowering the next generation.

‎‎The Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland commended the selfless contributions of Ijesa elites to the development of the region over the years.

‎‎He highlighted major projects including the construction of a befitting palace, the establishment of a geriatric centre, the provision of student loans and facilities, and the continuous support for the University of Ilesa as remarkable efforts made by Ijesa elites to transform the region.‎‎

The monarch recalled that before his ascension, political divisions had hindered progress in Ijesaland, but credited the elites for uniting and working tirelessly to restore the region’s lost glory.‎‎

He urged Ijesa people to remain united and committed to developing the land, stressing that much more still needs to be done to catch up with missed opportunities from not being made a state capital during the state creation exercises.‎‎

Also speaking, the Odoole of Yorubaland, Chief Kessington Adebutu, congratulated Ijesa sons and daughters all over the world and praised Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup as a visionary leader who has brought dignity and direction to Ijesaland.‎‎

He encouraged Ijesa people to rally behind the monarch’s new initiatives, assuring that such projects would further enhance the economic and social development of the region.‎‎

Another highlight of the event was the launch of a N1 billion landmark project, Osomaalo House, which will be built in the heart of Lagos as a symbol of Ijesa pride and identity.‎‎

The event, organised by The Ijesa Society under the leadership of Chief Lateef Bakare, the Ajirowa of Ijesaland was attended by dignitaries, traditional rulers, academics, and well-wishers who celebrated the monarch’s birthday and pledged support for the new projects.‎‎‎‎‎
