Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has commended prominent human rights lawyer Barrister Pelumi Olajengbesi for his visionary initiative towards youth empowerment and community development.
Speaking at the kick-off of the Governor Ademola Adeleke Cup in Ijebu-Ijesa, with over twenty-two teams competing across wards in the entire Ijesa North Federal Constituency, Governor Adeleke who was represented by the chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Honourable Sunday Bisi, praised Olajengbesi’s efforts, describing the initiative as a wonderful approach to promoting unity, togetherness, and love among youths.
“The administration of Governor Adeleke has been noted for its focus on youth and sports development, and the tournament aligns perfectly with those priorities,” Bisi added.
He lauded Olajengbesi’s commitment to community development and expressed hope that the tournament would become a cornerstone of discovering and developing future sports personalities from Osun State.
Addressing journalists, Pelumi Olajengbesi stated that the initiative aims to create an avenue for young people to display their sports talents. He further noted that the tournament would inspire youths to strive for excellence both on and off the field.
Olajengbesi added that organizing the tournament is a major step in repositioning football in the state.
The Elegboro of Ijebu-Ijesa, Oba Moses Olufemi Agunsoye, and the Owaloko of Iloko-Ijesa, Oba Akeem Ogungbangbe, praised the importance of community-driven projects like the Governor Ademola Adeleke Cup in promoting peace and development.
They commended Olajengbesi for uniting the youths of the federal constituency through the football tournament, emphasizing that sports can transcend social and economic barriers.
The event was well attended by notable figures, including Fuji maestro Taye Currency, Adegbodu Twins, Nollywood stars Tayo Amokade(Ijebu) and Okele, as well as various local dignitaries and officials.
The Governor’s Cup will feature matches in 22 wards within the Ijesa North Federal Constituency, with the winning team receiving a cash prize of two million naira (N2 million), the runner-up one million naira (N1 million), and the third place team five hundred thousand naira (N500,000).
