
The body of Late Mrs. Mewolaka Olatomi Modupe Saseyi has been laid to rest in Ilesa, Osun State.




The matriarch of the Akinola family, descendants of the Sawe of Ilesa, passed on May 30, 2025, at the age of 93.
Her burial ceremony drew a large gathering of family, friends, and distinguished personalities from within and outside Nigeria.
She is survived by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Speaking on her life, Chief Akinwande Ayinde Akinola, Sawe of Ilesa and brother to the deceased, described her as a devout churchwoman who served with humility and total commitment.
He recalled her early days as a chorister and drama troupe member at St. John’s Church, Iloro, Ilesa, later becoming a Lay Reader and eventually rising to the position of Iya Ijo in her community church.
Funeral activities began with a commendation service at the Church of Messiah, Anglican Communion, Isokun, Ilesa, followed by a Christian wake, funeral service, interment, and entertainment of guests.
The Cathedral Church of St. John, Iloro, Ilesa, hosted the final funeral service where the officiating minister, Very Revd. A. M. Fademi, urged Christians to emulate her life of dedication to God’s work.
The ceremonies witnessed the presence of prominent Ijesa leaders and stakeholders, including the Asiwaju of Ijesaland, Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi, alongside other dignitaries and church societies.
Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat of Agidigbo FM, Ibadan, also attended with his media crew.
Born on May 7, 1933, Mrs. Saseyi lived a life of service and impact. She worked in various establishments including the Nigerian Army Headquarters in Kaduna, Finance Corporation Ibadan, and Union Bank, where she rose to senior administrative ranks. Beyond her professional achievements, she was one of Nigeria’s pioneering female priests, having studied at Emmanuel College of Theology, Ibadan, and served faithfully in the Anglican Communion until her passing.
Her burial was not only a moment of mourning but also a celebration of a life well lived, filled with faith, service, and commitment to family and community.
