UK-Based Ijesa Couple to be Installed as Otunba Mayegun and Yeye Otunba Mayegun of Imope Kingdom

A UK-based Ijesa couple, Mr. Arnu Olaitan Cooper and Mrs. Bunmi Cooper, have been honoured with the distinguished titles of Otunba Mayegun and Yeye Otunba Mayegun of Imope Kingdom, further cementing their status as respected Yoruba cultural ambassadors.

Mr. Cooper is also a proud member of the prestigious Bobakeye Okunrin Adimula of Ijesaland, a group known for upholding the cultural heritage and values of the Ijesa people.

The installation ceremony will be performed by HRH Alayeluwa Oba Tajudeen Kolawole Sijibomi Omotayo, the Onimope of Imope Kingdom, Adekalu Gbadewolu I, who selected the couple for the revered titles in recognition of their outstanding contributions to society and their dedication to promoting Yoruba values both at home and abroad.

The coronation and installation are scheduled for Tuesday, 16th December 2025, at 11am, and will take place at The Kabiyesi Palace, Imope, Ijebu North Local Government, Ogun State.

Mr. and Mrs. Cooper, who are widely travelled and based in the United Kingdom, are well known for their philanthropic spirit, cultural pride, and consistent support for developmental initiatives in their communities.

Many within the Ijesa community and beyond have described the honour as well deserved, noting that the couple continues to represent Ijesaland with dignity on the global stage.

Their recognition as Otunba Mayegun and Yeye Otunba Mayegun also highlights the growing cultural collaboration between Ijesaland and Ijebuland, strengthening unity and mutual respect among Yoruba kingdoms.
